VOLLEYBALL – SSV STATE FINALS

The BSSC boys volleyball team narrowly missed out on being our first volleyball team since 2006 to win a School Sport Victoria State Final. In their round-robin games they defeated Maribyrnong (20-18, 20-14) and Shepparton (20-9, 20-11) but lost a close encounter against Eltham (21-19, 18-20, 13-15). Despite the loss, they finished on top of their pool to set up a clash with Narre Warren South in the semi-final. After splitting the first two sets, BSSC ran away with the third to win 20-17, 18-20, 15-5. Eltham also won their semi-final, so the two teams faced each other again in the gold medal match. Our boys started in great style, taking the first set 21-10, and were within two points of taking the match before Eltham recovered to take the second set 21-19. A slow start to the last set from BSSC allowed Eltham to establish an early lead and they hung on to win 15-11. Great result to take home a silver medal in a state final!! Well done to the team:

Lachie Hill, Bryce Guley, Tarran Kilcullen, Dillon Gauci, Jack Sides, Lachie Parkinson, Tom Wigney, Matt Poulter, and coach Jimmy Shelton.

The BSSC girls volleyball team also played extremely well at the State Finals. In their round-robin games, they were defeated by Maribyrnong (20-12, 20-15) and Eltham (20-7, 20-6), before registering a win against Wodonga (20-13, 20-16). Unfortunately they didn’t make it through to the semi-finals, but can be very proud of their results for the day. The two teams that defeated BSSC ended up playing each other in the gold medal game. Well done to all players:

Lisa Ung, Caitlin Johns, Jamie Targett, Maddie Betts, Susie Godfrey, Talitha Alexander, Chloe De Salvo, and coach Kate Eason.
