Basketball – Australian School Championships
The BSSC boys basketball team finished in seventh place in Division 1 at this year’s Australian School Championships. The team won three of its four round-robin matches, with the only loss being by a single point against Newington College. They finished in second place in their pool and had to play the third-placed team in the other pool in the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, they were defeated in their quarter-final and missed the opportunity to go into the play-offs for a medal.
The team proved that they could match it with the best teams in the competition throughout the week. They defeated St. Joseph’s College 81 – 54 in the round-robin, and St Joseph’s eventually went on to win the gold medal.
Statistically, there were some really good performances from the BSSC boys. Billy Smythe averaged 17.14 points per game (ranked 10th overall), Trent Leech averaged 14.14 (ranked 15th), and Kai Daniels 14.0 (ranked 16th). Billy was also the second ranked player in the tournament for 2-point shots made. Nicholas Skinner (8th) and Dylan McCauley (10th) both finished in the top ten for the tournament for three-point shots made. These are impressive statistics when you consider that there were 107 players in Division 1.
Congratulations to all players who participated: Dylan McCauley, Lochie Hussey, Trent Leech, Ethan Cunningham, Hayden Parrott, Kai Daniels, Isaac Murphy, Nicholas Skinner, Jackson Hufer, and Billy Smythe.
School Sport Victoria – State Team Trials
Each year, talented Victorian School students have the opportunity to trial for a place in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic State team. Selected students participate in annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships including the Pacific School Games (PSG) held every second year.
