BSSC students who attended this morning’s performance by the Bell Shakespeare Players were utterly caught up by the dramatic portrayals of human emotions and behaviours ranging from love to hate, manipulation to empathy, murder to mercy—and pretty much everything in between!
In a spectacular romp across multiple plays, supported by simple props, students watched characters such as Othello, Lady McBeth, Iago, Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet, Desdemona, and Shylock leap into life.
Meg, Josh and Triona gave students intense, sometimes deeply moving, interpretations—and seamlessly ‘broke the fourth wall’ frequently communicating directly with their audience.
“Their ability to manipulate facial expression was incredible,” says Alice. “There was not a moment I wasn’t engaged.”
Nate agrees, “There was just so much happening that your attention could not be drawn away.”
Teacher, Sharn Treloar, says the actors drew attention to the way William Shakespeare used complex characters to create very human and relatable stories.
“In the end, Shakespeare was always writing for the masses.”
Indeed, the BSSC audience was rivetted from the first moment to the closing scene.
