BSSC is a truly multi-cultural campus. Over the years our EAL students have come to us from many places across the globe.

Presently, the majority of our EAL students are Karen and while the awfulness of being forced to leave your home is hard for many Australians to imagine, our Karen students are inspirational in their willingness to adapt. They also deepen the cultural richness of our college community.

Interactions between students born and raised in Bendigo and those from an international background are generally great. In fact, when a BSSC teacher recently asked her class who would like to have a friend who is from a Karen background, every student put up a hand.

Over the last few years, there have been some magnificent contributions made by our Karen students to the life of our college.

Not only have EAL students prepared literally thousands of meals for Bendigo Foodshare and contributed to Market Day, they have also cooked delicious traditional recipes for Cultural Diversity events, and shared some of their lovely cultural practices, such as traditional Karen dance.
