On Saturday a crowd estimated at approximately 2000 past students and staff enjoyed the decade reunions and memorabilia, tours
of the college run by the Student Council and the Art Exhibition. They also enjoyed catching up with friends who they had not
seen for many years and reminisced about their days at the school.
One of the highlights of the celebrations was the Opening Ceremony held on Saturday afternoon. A group of Chinese lion dancers
heralded the proceedings. A Clan McLeod piper led the official party into the gymnasium. The party comprised The Hon John Brumby,
Premier of Victoria; Rosemary McKenzie, Dux of the school in 1976; Hon Jacinta Allan; Hon Bob Cameron; Ron Lake, Regional
Director of the Loddon Mallee Region; Dale Pearce, Principal; Chris Hyett and Elsha Jewell, Presidents of the Student Council.
The Hon John Brumby, Premier of Victoria officially opened the Celebrations. His wife, Rosemary McKenzie, launched the latest
edition of "The School on the Hill". Rosemary was dux in 1976 and happily shared her fond memories of her days at the school.
Dr Janette Bomford, author of "The School on the Hill" responded. Geoff Paynter, President of Old Gold Bendigo, spoke on behalf of all former students.
Premier Brumby and Rosemary McKenzie unveiled 3 plaques formally naming the Old Gold Quadrangle, the Florence Anderson Building and the Ron Lake Building.
Dale Pearce then asked the seven nonagenarians present to cut the Centenary cake.
At the conclusion of the Ceremony, a photo was taken of the entire audience in the Gymnasium. Year photos were also taken. Those who were enrolled at the school before 1950 had their photos taken before the Official Opening and those enrolled after 1950 had their photos taken after the ceremony.
Outside the gym there were another six cakes (making a total of seven metres) for the audience to sample.
Centenary Dinner-All Seasons Bendigo
